In the Fire and Safety course, which is the best training course for diploma holders, you will come across DSPA. as it is a part of the course. The question now is, “What is DSPA?” Continue reading to get a complete answer to your question about DSPA.

What is DSPA?

DSPA is an abbreviation for Dry Sprinkler Powder Aerosol is a fire extinguishing system based on micro particulates. Comparable to other dry chemical or gas-based firefighting systems. The micro particles are propelled into the environment by the expansion of gases produced in a chemical reaction within the DSPA unit, where they interact with the fire’s own chemical processes, suppressing/extinguishing the fire.

The DSPA suppressants operate on all four elements that combine to produce the chemical reaction that is fundamental to a fire. It is made up of heat, fuel, oxygen, and chemical reaction. The extinguishing mechanism is primarily based on chemical reactions that use free radicals generated by the flame to obstruct combustion within the fire.

What is DSPA ?

A DSPA-5 is a handheld firefighter’s device used to extinguish fires in confined spaces. When the confines of a standard fire extinguisher are exceeded by a rapidly burning fire, DSPA-5 provides a quick and effective means of reducing the intensity of the fire. A DSPA-5 canister is simple to deploy; simply pull the initiating pin and throw the unit into the fire. When the canister is activated, it quickly produces an expanding cloud of fire-fighting aerosol that knocks down the growing flames of a fire. A DSPA-5 reduces the risk to firefighters and dramatically reduces the amount of water required to extinguish a fire, thereby reducing building damage and assisting fire investigators.

What is DSPA Aerosol?

DSPA Aerosol was created as an alternative to Halon and other traditional extinguishing agents. It is both safe and effective. The active ingredients in the DSPA aerosol are solid microparticles that completely fill the compartment and attack the combustion process of a fire on a chemical level. As a result, the flames are instantly extinguished and the energy from the fire is removed.

The amount of extinguishing agent needed is significantly less than that of conventional extinguishing agents. Because it does not require any pressure vessels, manifolds, nozzles, or pipework, DSPA aerosol saves money on installation and maintenance. Furthermore, unlike other agents, DSPA is not harmful to the environment.
