Best FCAW & SMAW Welding Training in Kerala

Welding is a process of binding metal pieces together by subjecting them to heat till their melting points followed by addition of a molten material known as filler material at their joints. This molten metal creates a solder pool at the joint which then cools down thereby resulting in both pieces getting joined. The process utilized to heat the base is different based on the methodologies and its application. But the common methods are electricity or gas torch utilization.

Depending upon the various method of insulation there are several categories of welding method. When the welding pool is insulated by using materials like flux, it usually melts along with the electrode to create a defending coating known as a slag on the weld pool. In another method, an inert gas is ejected with the help of a nozzle on the weld pool so that it removes all the air that surrounds the molten metal, thereby providing insulation. This method is called electric arc welding. Some of the examples of this method are Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding ( SMAW welding), Flux Cored Arc Welding( FCAW welding) etc.

Let’s have a brief discussion on each of this welding method before moving on to welding training and its certification.

  • SMAW welding is a process that utilizes a stick electrode or knows as SMAW electrodes, and the flux layer is coated in the surface of the SMAW electrode. When the electrode starts melting, the flux gives coating gas and also melts down to form a slag, and both of this covers the weld pool surface.
  • Flux Cored Arc Welding is a method that makes use of a tubular electrode, where an electrode metal is used for making the outer shell and the inner hollow part is covered with flux. This flux then melts down to make a defending shell of slag that surrounds the weld pool and also forms shielding gas.

FCAW vs SMAW: Nowadays there is a rapid shift of the welding process from SMAW welding to FCAW welding for answering several challenges. It is because there are several advantages of FCAW over SMAW. Firstly, the manufacturers of self-covered flux cored wires filler metal have developed several applications for an onshore pipeline that offers good strength properties and also with low content of hydrogen. This is not the case in SMAW welding. Secondly, FCAW welder requires very reliable training for operation as there are very fewer features for monitoring like re-heat, intercross temperatures etc. And lastly, FCAW welding is a faster process than SMAW that allows completion of the welding process very fast.

  • MIG welding – It is an arc welding procedure in which a consistent solid wire electrode is inserted through a welding gun and to the weld pool, thereby resulting in joining of the two base material. Now through the welding gun, a coating gas is also passed with the help of a welding gun thereby protecting the weld pool from getting contaminated. MIG full form is metal inert gas and the technical name is gas metal arc welding (GMAW welding).

FCAW and GMAW welding are two common types of arc welding, but if you research about GMAW vs FCAW, these processes have varied advantages and disadvantages based on its manufacturing applications. GMAW welding utilizes a solid wire electrode and that is used for filler metal that welds two metal pieces. But in the case of FCW welding, a wire is used that is not solid. GMAW is good choice aesthetically as they offer low spatter levels than FCAW welders but on the other hand, FCAW welders give off shielding gas that stands better and gives a good layer of protection to the weld. Another factor to consider when looking for FCAW vs GMAW welding is GMAW welding is an easier process than the other and is more forgiving for the robot.

  • TIG welding– TIG or tungsten inert gas welding is technically called gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW welding). It makes use of a non-consumable tungsten electrode that provides current to the welding arc.

What do you need to be a good welder?

A welder is responsible to fuse metal components to create a final product. For that, they require good physical strength along with proper skills for managing all hazardous as well as heavy equipment well. There is a high demand for welders in various industries like motor vehicles, construction, and aerospace and for each, there is a need for the varied level of expertise. A person with goes technical education in varied welding forms will assist in increasing various career possibilities of a welder.

Educational qualification for being a welder:

Well, it varies from employer to employer. While some require a high school diploma but they need to qualify a welding test and some require a certificate from the technical or vocational organization.

In welding training, students learn the technique of heating metal to give it a shape. Important classes are blueprint reading, mathematics, welding symbols, pipe layout. And some of the important methods taught are arc welding, bronzing, soldering, brazing.

So, if you want to have a good career in welding you need to acquire excellent hand-eye coordination along with manual dexterity, problem-solving skills and good communication skills. Various certificate programs are available you need to complete to increase your knowledge and expertise.
