There is been a lot of studies conducting on fire and developing new technologies to protect the life and properties of human beings from fire. Hence it is a powerful job and needs dedication and hard work to succeed in this profession. Fire protection engineering is basically using the application of science and engineering principles.

Fire engineering courses include methods of fire detection, prevention, and human behavior and thereby maintaining an environmental condition to rescue living beings from the fire attacks.

What Does a Fire engineer Do?

A fire engineer has to be always alert of an immediate fire attack and has to adapt to sudden changes as quickly as possible. By providing safety measures and precautions, Fire engineering increases the parameters of the standard of living by reducing the casualty which happens on a day by day basis. It helps one understand the importance of fire and the effect of it in daily life and thereby helps to focus on a building design that ensures the structure and its occupants are as safe from the dangers of instant fire attacks.

Fire Engineering can be classified into Fire Prevention Engineering, Fire Control Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, and Fire Safety Engineering as well, involving the technical knowledge to prevent people and property in case of a sudden fire.

The services of fire safety engineers will be valuable when a fire expands and causes a severe threat to lives and properties. It is a true fact that fire safety engineers play a significant role in the life and properties of living beings.

A good fire engineer should possess some of the key skills such as discipline, reliability, confidence, and quickness. They should have knowledge about fire fighting, different types of fires, and how to control and prevent them in certain situations as well about the rescue methods and types of equipment in case of a fire breakdown.

What is the minimum Educational qualification required For Fire & Safety Engineering?

There are various courses suitable for candidates with various educational backgrounds from SSLC, Plus Two to B tech.

For diploma and certificate courses in fire engineering eligibility criteria are 10 + 2 with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry or its equivalent examination.

The age limit for joining the diploma in Fire and Safety is 18-40.

What all are the skills required to be a fire engineer?

Many skills required for a successful fire engineer such as good communication skills, leadership quality, and quick decision making and critical thinking, etc. Fire and safety engineers may perform various types of roles such as evaluating construction layouts to ensure the fire protection laws are implemented, thereby protecting the lives of people and property of the owners.

Fire engineers are also been hired by many third parties to guide them for providing a second opinion or, for inspecting the data of the companies to support the designs.

Job prospects in Fire Engineering

There are several opportunities in the manufacturing sector such as textile, refineries, and the fertilizer industry for students, who have completed fire and safety courses from recognized institutes. The scope of a trained fire and safety professional is very large in the field of manufacturing, chemicals, LPG bottling plants, ships, oil rigs, etc  Fire and safety engineers may also work as insurance surveyors or valuers in insurance companies.

Who prefers to choose the Fire and Safety Engineering courses?

The candidates who prefer to choose the Fire and Safety courses, apart from the educational qualification should also possess some specified physical qualification.

They are as follows

*For undergoing practical training one must be physically fit and free from natural diseases

Physical standards required for Fire engineering courses

Height- 165cm (minimum)

Weight- 50kgs

Chest measurements – 81centimeters with 5cms expansion

Vision – 6/6, Preferably without any aid.

Most relevant methods of fire protection and prevention which helps in reducing the impact of fire on buildings and the lives of human beings and thereby ensuring the conservation of assets and providing a safe environment.
